Abstract
The annual state-of-water issue of the Water Wheel reviews key developments in water research, policy, and infrastructure across South Africa in 2022–23. Feature articles cover the ongoing water services crisis in municipalities, progress on acid mine drainage treatment in Johannesburg, new climate-smart irrigation technologies, and profiles of emerging water researchers supported by the WRC's Emerging Researcher Bursary Programme.
