Abstract
South Africa's water sector invests significantly in research and innovation, yet the translation of research outputs into operational practice remains slow and uneven. This study traces the technology transfer pathways for 30 WRC-funded innovations over 15 years, identifying barriers at the stages of validation, demonstration, commercialisation, and adoption. A revised technology transfer model with specific interventions for the South African context is proposed, including innovation challenge funds and utility innovation champions.
