Water Wheel: Water and Climate — Preparing for an Uncertain Future
Published: 1 July 2021
Report No: WW 20(4)/2021
Authors: Prof. Roland Schulze, Prof. Anthony Turton
Abstract
Climate variability is the single greatest threat to water security in southern Africa. This Water Wheel special issue brings together leading researchers to examine projected changes in rainfall patterns, streamflow, and groundwater recharge under different emission scenarios. Case studies from the Breede, Crocodile, and Thukela river catchments illustrate adaptation options, and a dialogue with water managers reveals how climate uncertainty is already influencing infrastructure planning decisions.
